SYDNEY: Australia's Treasurer the Hon Josh Frydenberg M.P, Former U.S Treasury Secretary, Larry Summers and Former Foreign Minister of Australia, the Hon Julie Bishop are among the 65 speakers that will address Citi's annual Australia and New Zealand Investment Conference on October 13th and 14th.
The two-day event will be opened by Citi's CEO, Jane Fraser, and will host over 1500 institutional investors, fund managers, CEOs, and CFOs from Australia, New Zealand and around the globe.
Attendees will hear from a range of corporate leaders, prominent politicians, central bankers and economists, addressing crucial macro-economic issues, and providing in-depth, sector-based analysis into areas like healthcare, property, infrastructure and ESG.
Citi Australia and New Zealand CEO Marc Luet, says the conference is uniquely timed at a critical point for Australia and the Asia Pacific region.
"There's no doubt that COVID-19 has changed our lives. But even as we navigate the impact of the pandemic and begin re-opening the economy, it's clear that a recovery is underway.
"Sustainability themes have risen to the top of the political and financial agenda; and technology and e-commerce is helping companies experience unprecedented growth. Citi estimates the global economy is expected to rebound by 5.8% this year, following the 3.5% contraction in 2020. Investors are eager to understand these developments and the opportunities they present."

Jane Fraser is the Chief Executive Officer of Citi, the world's most global bank, serving millions of consumers, businesses and institutions across 160 countries and jurisdictions. She is the first female CEO in the firm's history. Before becoming CEO in February 2021, she was President of Citi and CEO of the Global Consumer Bank, responsible for all of Citi's Consumer businesses, including Retail Banking and Wealth Management, Credit Cards, Mortgage and Operations and Technology in 19 markets. She is Vice Chair for Partnership for New York City and a member of the Harvard Business School's Board of Dean's Advisors, the Stanford Global Advisory Board, the Economic Club of New York and the Council on Foreign Relations. Jane has an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School and an M.A. in economics from Cambridge University. She is married with two children.
The Hon Josh Frydenberg MP, Australian Treasurer was elected to the Australian Parliament in 2010 and appointed Treasurer in 2018. He previously served as Minister for the Environment and Energy, the Minister for Resources, Energy and Northern Australia, Assistant Treasurer and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister since the 2013 election.
Larry Summers is a Former U.S Treasury Secretary and leading economist. During the past two decades, he has served in a series of senior policy positions in Washington, D.C., including the 71st Secretary of the Treasury for President Clinton, Director of the National Economic Council for President Obama and Vice President of Development Economics and Chief Economist of the World Bank. He received a Bachelor of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1975 and was awarded a Ph.D. from Harvard in 1982. In 1983, he became one of the youngest individuals in recent history to be named as a tenured member of the Harvard University faculty.
The Hon Julie Bishop served as Australia's Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2013 until her resignation in 2018. She was the first female to hold the role and the first female Deputy Leader of the Liberal Party, serving for 11 years. In a political career spanning over 20 years, Julie also served as Minister for Education, Science and Training, Minister for Women's Issues and Minister for Ageing. Prior to entering politics, Ms Bishop was Managing Partner of the law firm Clayton Utz in Perth. Julie is the Chancellor of Australian National University, Chair of Telethon Kids Institute, Chair of Prince's Trust Australia, a member of the international advisory boards of Afiniti and the Human Vaccines Project and is the Patron of Shooting Stars – an education programme for young aboriginal girls.
Geoff Bascand is the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and leads the Financial Stability departments in the Bank. Mr Bascand is responsible for forming and implementing policies to promote a sound and efficient financial system and includes overseeing the major functions of policy and analysis, supervision and data and statistics. Before joining the Bank, Mr Bascand was the Government Statistician and Chief Executive of Statistics New Zealand. He has held senior management roles in the Department of Labour and the New Zealand Treasury, and was a staff economist at the International Monetary Fund.
Ryan Tolkin is CEO and Chief Investment Officer at Schonfeld Strategic Advisors, a global investment management firm that manages US$6.4 billion of third-party capital alongside Founder Steven Schonfeld's family office assets. Mr Tolkin leads the Adviser's investment and capital allocation team and oversees business development efforts. Prior to joining Schonfeld Group, from 2008 to 2013, Mr Tolkin worked as part of the Corporate Credit Trading team at Goldman Sachs where he was responsible for managing the Energy/Utilities and REITs portfolios. Mr. Tolkin graduated in 2008 from Duke with a degree in economics and both Phi Beta Kappa and Magna cum laude honors.
Matt King is Citi's Global Markets Strategist. Prior to his appointment as Global Markets Strategist, Matt was Citi's Global Head of Credit Strategy. Before joining Citi in 2003, he was Head of European Credit Strategy at JPMorgan. Matt has built a career around advising investors, issuers and policymakers on the big-picture themes driving markets, whatever they may be. In 2000, he coined the credit-equity "clock" – still a cornerstone of many investors' asset allocation processes. In 2008, his piece Are the brokers broken? predicted the fall of Lehman and showed how its sources of repo funding were drying up. Since the financial crisis, he has focused increasingly on global debt dynamics and on the distortions created by central banks. He has also written extensively on market liquidity. Matt has an MA in Social and Political Sciences from Emmanuel College, Cambridge.
Robert Buckland is Citi's Chief Global Equity Strategist. He heads up Citi Research's extensive network of equity strategists across the world's major financial centres. Robert's regular Global Equity Strategist publication sets out Citi's views on equity markets and is widely read by investors. Before joining the firm in 1998, he was Head of UK Equity Strategy at HSBC James Capel. Prior to that, Robert was a company analyst, Economist and strategist at NatWest Securities, starting in 1989. Robert received a BSc in Economics and Politics from the University of Bristol.
