Citi Latin America Wins in the Regional Euromoney Awards for Excellence

July 20, 2020

Miami, Fla. – Euromoney, the preeminent global financial markets magazine, recognized Citi Latin America with the inaugural Excellence in Leadership Award. This award honors the efforts of Citi in responding to the COVID-19 crisis in the Latin American region. Additionally, the Excellence in Leadership Award was awarded to Citi in the North American, African, and Asian regions.

On Citi's success, Euromoney wrote, "Citi worked hard to mitigate the effects of the pandemic throughout central and Latin America and, given its history and geographical spread throughout the region, its impact was widespread. Led by Latin America chief executive Ernesto Torres Cantú, Citi acted quickly to protect staff and support clients."

"We're honored to be recognized for the efforts that our colleagues have made to help mitigate the effects of the pandemic," said Ernesto Torres Cantú, CEO of Citi Latin America. "We've prioritized the health and safety of Citi's colleagues and their families, while at the same time maintaining our ability and unwavering commitment to serve our clients and communities. We will continue to work tirelessly throughout these trying times to help our clients, employees and communities across the region and globally."

Citi's response to the COVID-19 pandemic includes investing to move 90% of LATAM colleagues to work remotely and providing around the clock support to institutional clients navigating volatile markets. In Mexico, the franchise's retail banking operation reduced branch operations to 50% of its overall capacity. Through the Treasury and Trade Solutions and Banking, Capital Markets and Advisory divisions, Citi has created new solutions and services to support clients managing their business needs as the economic impacts of the pandemic continue to evolve.

In addition to the Excellence in Leadership Award, Euromoney named Citi the Best Investment Bank in Central America and Caribbean.

"In the year under review, the bank won the largest and most prestigious mandates for investment banking transactions. From the $2 billion dual-tranche offering for the Republic of Panama to its role in the $1.1 billion deal for the Republic of El Salvador, Citi is the clear leader in bringing regional issuers to the international capital markets," Euromoney said.

The Euromoney Awards for Excellence are in their 29th year and are recognized to be among the most prestigious in the financial services industry.
