Citi Ireland Awarded 'Best Investment Bank' by Euromoney

London – Citi was recognized as 'Best Investment Bank – Ireland' by Euromoney, the preeminent global financial markets magazine, at its annual Awards for Excellence dinner in London last night.

The awards are widely considered as one of the most coveted in the banking industry and were decided by editorial panels.

On Citi's award for Best Investment Bank – Ireland, Euromoney wrote: "A string of important local and international Ireland-related deals makes Citi Ireland's best investment bank."

Tony Golden, Chairman, Corporate and Investment Banking, Ireland, Citi, said, "We are honored to receive this recognition from Euromoney. It speaks to the work we have been doing with our clients here, how we continue to develop, and where our experience and global footprint differentiate us."

Tony also commented on the outlook for Ireland: "The Irish corporate sector entered 2019 on heels of significant market turbulence. On the one hand, economic fundamentals remain sound—continued Irish GDP growth, low unemployment and healthy corporate balance sheets. On the other hand, risks including Brexit, trade wars and rising equity volatility, point to additional challenges. Irish companies who use capital markets have experienced good access to global funding markets so far this year. International investors have remained supportive despite proximity to key Brexit deadlines.

He continued: "A hard Brexit may lead to short-term disruption and difficulty accessing funding on a normalized used basis. However, the ongoing impact may be more about pricing premiums than ability to access long term funding. Investment banking activity remains strong with well-structured M&A transformational transactions finding strong support; nevertheless market volumes are unlikely to reach the highs of 2018."

The Euromoney Awards for Excellence are in their 28th year and are recognized to be among the most prestigious in the financial services industry.
