London – Citigroup received the Most Effective Recovery of the Year Award in this year's Business Continuity Awards, for its efforts following the massive earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12th.

"This award recognizes the inspiring work done by Citi employees on the ground to assist colleagues and customers and to recover Citi's business processes under the most challenging of circumstances," said John Odermatt, Head of Citi's Office of Business Continuity. "It also represents validation from our peers in the industry of our comprehensive and time-tested business continuity program."

Citi's headquarters building in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, collapsed following the earthquake, and operations were moved first to the Dominican Republic, and two weeks later, to a location in Haiti.

"Despite the loss of five Citi colleagues and the devastation to the country and its infrastructure, our team in Haiti maintained a level of professionalism during this crisis that serves as an example of how these situations should be handled," said Odermatt.

Odermatt and Joseph Marchese, Head of Global Security and Executive Protection for Citi Security & Investigative Services, accepted the award on March 12th on behalf of Citi.

The Business Continuity Awards, now in their 12th year, recognize excellence in the field of business continuity and operational risk management. The awards are hosted by Continuity Insurance and Risk (CIR) magazine.
