Citi Celebrates its Pride, Passion and Progress

Citi Celebrates its Pride, Passion and Progress By John Henry Watson

In June, Citi celebrated Pride Month with a variety of local community and employee awareness and volunteer events, as well as Pride flag raisings at sites around the U.S., and participation in Pride parades in the U.S. and in London. This year, Citi had over 1,000 employees, friends and family participating in Pride celebrations around the world. In New York, over 650 employees, friends and allies of Citi marched together in the Pride parade. The Pride Month events are always well received by Pride Network members and demonstrate Citi's commitment to LGBT employees and allies.

 
The past few years have seen great growth and progress for Citi's Pride Networks globally. The Citi Pride Network now has more than 2,000 employees, recently welcoming networks in Mexico City, Budapest, Belfast, Hong Kong and Florence, Kentucky. Citigroup CEO Mike Corbat and several senior managers reinforced their commitment to Diversity by partnering with the Citi Pride Network to make Citi the only U.S. Retail Bank to sign on to the Amicus Brief making the business case against DOMA last year and by hosting the "Out on the Street" summit in May 2014. Citi and the Citi Pride Network received both the AVP Courage Award and the OPEN Finance Corporate Leadership Award in 2013 and are now finalists for the 2014 Outie Award from Out & Equal Workplace Advocates. Also in 2013, Global Workforce Diversity launched educational "I am an Ally" placards that can be displayed in any workspace.
 
Over the years, many sites have displayed the flag internally and flown the flag externally during Pride month. This year, we are pleased to announce that all U.S. sites with Citi Pride Employee Networks have flown the rainbow flag in celebration of Pride Month - Florence, Hagerstown, Irving, Jacksonville, New York City, San Antonio, St. Louis and Tampa. Citi's Canary Wharf office in London also lit up the skyline with a fantastic rainbow lights display.
 
We are thankful for the contributions and dedication of the employees around the globe who help make these events possible.
