Banamex, through Fomento Cultural Banamex, the Bank's Cultural Foundation, organized the second edition of the photography contest "El Mexico de los Mexicanos II" as part of Banamex' 130th anniversary celebrations. The contest aimed to promote Mexican culture and sought to create a better understanding of Mexico's national identity and culture through photographs. The contest was open to the public, both national and international. Contest participants were asked to portray the enormous diversity, complexity and vitality of the people, customs, culture and values of 21st century Mexico in their photographs.

Over 24,000 photographers from several different countries submitted nearly 53,000 images. The jury, which was comprised of various professional photographers, selected 36 photographs as finalists. 19 of the selected photographers earned a cash prize and the remaining 17 received a diploma in recognition for their talent and their participation.

The "El Mexico de los Mexicanos II" exhibition was displayed at an Open Gallery located at the Chapultepec Gates in Reforma Avenue, one of the most important and symbolic streets in Mexico City. At a future date, the photographs will be displayed at the Palacio de Cultura Banamex, as well as in several other national and international cultural venues.

For Banamex, it is very important to promote the Mexican culture to build and enhance the Mexican cultural heritage. This photography competition illustrates Mexico's national identity through the eyes of thousands of Mexicans and represents the 130 year commitment of Banamex with Mexico.
