Crypto Regulation Deep Dive: A Look at MiCA: Interview with Dr. David Doyle

This Regulation is part of a broader digital agenda, namely, the European Commission’s Digital Finance Package which is aimed at protecting consumers, ensuring financial stability whilst fostering technological development. It is the first European legislation aimed at introducing a harmonized regulatory framework for cryptoasset issuers and service providers across the EU and contains a broad range of provisions including conduct of business, prudential requirements, authorization and supervision. Two years after it was initially proposed, political agreement was reached on 30 June 2022. We expect the Regulation to come into force at the end of 2022/23 and it is intended to become applicable 18 months later with additional guidance and Regulatory Technical Standards to be published in the interim.
