Jump-Starting Career Readiness for Half a Million Young People

In March 2014, CEO Mike Corbat and the Citi Foundation launched Pathways to Progress, originally a three-year, $50 million U.S. commitment to provide 100,000 low-income urban young people, aged 16 to 24, with the opportunity to develop the workplace skills and leadership experience necessary to compete in a 21st century economy. The initiative focused on 10 of the largest U.S. cities, and Citi worked with leading national partners who have expertise in programs that support young people to transform ambition into achievement.

In 2017, Citi announced a global expansion of Pathways to Progress. Led by a Citi Foundation investment of $100 million to connect 500,000 young people to training and jobs over three years, it marked the largest philanthropic commitment in the Citi Foundation's history.

In addition to the financial investment and technical assistance being provided by the Citi Foundation, more than 10,000 Citi employees volunteer time and expertise as mentors, coaches and role models to young people.
