Citi established operations in the Bahamas in 1960
Citi® established operations in The Bahamas in 1960 and for more than 60 years has provided Corporate and Investment Banking services in the country. Over the course of its history in The Bahamas, Citi has been involved in major project financing within the country, related to the public infrastructure, logistics, telecommunications, and power sectors. Citi also provides transactional banking through its award-winning internet banking platform, CitiDirect®, as well as its foreign exchange platform CitiFX Pulse®.
Citi began operating in the Bahamas in 1960 as First National City Bank of New York and First National City Trust Company (Bahamas) Limited. • Activities included offshore Euro Dollar deposits, limited local retail banking and the Trust business (Fiduciary services)
1972
In 1972, Citi moved into a Citi owned building in Oakes Field. A branch was maintained downtown.
1976
In 1976, the entities changed their names to Citibank N.A. and Cititrust (Bahamas) Limited respectively.
1987
In 1987, Citibank implemented a full service consumer bank business.
1994
In 1994, Citi established a local presence in Latin American Investment Bank Bahamas Limited to support offshore activity booked in Bahamas entities.
2001
In 2001, Citibank closed its consumer bank business, and the same year opened a niche corporate bank business serving clients operating in the local economy.
2010
In 2010, Citibank opened a mini branch at Thompson Boulevard to service the cash needs of its domestic clients.
2017
In 2017, Citi established a new office in the Albany Financial Center with a focus on Wealth Management.
2021
In 2021, Citi moved its Bahamas headquarters to new premises in Caves Corporate Centre on West Bay Street, including its ICG client-facing branch.
