2022 Citi Journalism Awards for Excellence

Citi is pleased to announce that Shane Wright is the winner of the coveted 2022 Citi Journalism Award for Excellence for his series on Monetary Policy, published in The Age & Sydney Morning Herald.

This year 79 entries were received from Australian and New Zealand journalists representing 24 publications across four categories; General Business, Markets and Investment, The Economy and Broadcast Media. The awards have now been running globally for 40 years.

The 2022 category winners are:

Sarah Danckert, winner of General Business 1 category for her article 'The secret Australian origins of the world's biggest crypto casino', published in The Age & Sydney Morning Herald.
Carrie LaFrenz & Jessica Sier, winners of General Business 2 for their article 'How a Reddit army brought an Aussie lingerie icon back from the dead', published in The Australian Financial Review.
Shane Wright, winner of The Economy category for his series on 'RBA Monetary Policy' published in The Age & Sydney Morning Herald.
Neil Chenoweth, Adele Ferguson & Kate McClymont winners of the Markets and Investment category for their series on software company NUIX published in The Australian Financial Review.
Chris Gillett, Adele Ferguson & Deborah Snow winners of the Broadcast Media category for their investigation 'An Indigenous community wants to know where their money has gone', aired on the ABC.
Charlotte Grieve, winner of the Citi Young Business Journalist of the Year Award for her series on the big four banks' approach to fighting financial crime published in The Age & Sydney Morning Herald.
Nikki Mandow winner of the New Zealand Journalist of the Year Award for her series covering the dilemma facing first-home buyers in New Zealand, published on Newsroom.co.nz.

The Citi Journalism Awards for Excellence programme encourages and recognises outstanding business and finance reporting across Australia and New Zealand.

One of the key attributes of the awards is the integrity and independence of the judging panel, which is designed to represent a broad range of prominent Australian business, regulatory and community leaders. The panel of independent judges determined the winners based on criteria that included analysis and understanding of the issue, introduction of new ideas, use of research and interviews, originality in thinking and impact.
