Sustainable Development Investments
Our Sustainable Development Investments group (SDI) operates as a standalone investment center within the Citi Alternative Investments (CAI) division. Sustainable Development is development which meets the needs of the present generation without sacrificing the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. The SDI program underscores Citi’s commitment to protect the environment through reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and supports our belief in the need for alternative sources of energy and a focus on sustainable development. Before becoming a standalone business unit in Apirl 2007, Citi has invested over $150 million in SDI qualified companies since its inception in 2004 (through Citi Venture Capital International).
SDI’s objective is to make private equity investments in in the following sectors:
- Renewable energy (wind, solar, biofuels, hydro, geothermal etc)
- Sustainable forestry
- Waste management
- Water management
- Clean technologies
- Energy efficiency
- Carbon credit markets
SDI has a flexible investment style and will make private equity investments in (1) equity in projects & infrastructure including the development phase, (2) late stage private equity including buyouts and expansion capital and (3) select late stage venture capital.
