Youth Education Citi Asia Pacific is committed to investing in education to help young people develop the skills to be successful in the workplace, contribute to the economy and lead productive lives.

We support programmes that:

In 2007, Citi contributed US$3 million through Citi Foundation grants to support youth education initiatives in Asia Pacific. Citi businesses also supported youth education charities through donations and extensive employee volunteering as mentors or helpers in various projects.

Cracking the Case on Climate Change
In October 2007, Citi Hong Kong celebrated its fifth year hosting the Citi International Case Competition, recognised as one of the most prestigious international business case competitions in Asia. Funded by the Citi Foundation and jointly organised with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology's (HKUST) School of Business and Management www.bm.ust.hk, the competition challenges business school students to present ideas to solve some of the biggest strategic issues and managerial dilemmas faced by global business leaders. It also provides a valuable forum for crosscultural exchange and the sharing of new ideas and experiences.

Eighteen business school teams from around the world competed in the 2007 Citi International Case Competition in Hong Kong while learning about the role of business in reducing the impact of climate change.
attracted 18 teams from leading business schools in Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Mainland China, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Thailand and the USA.

The theme for this year's competition was the role of business in reducing the impact of climate change. The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas), Hong Kong's first public utility company, provided the case. Each student team was then required to conduct an in-depth analysis of the information provided and present their strategic recommendations to Towngas within 30 hours. The judging panel consisted of senior executives from Citi, Towngas and other major companies, as well as HKUST faculty and alumni.

Professor Leonard K. Cheng, Acting Dean, HKUST Business School said, "Teamwork, the ability to work well in a multi-cultural environment, and the determination to excel under pressure are all desirable learning outcomes in business education. The Citi International Case Competition provides students from all over the world with an excellent opportunity to put their theoretical learning into practice and learn from each other."

Thammasat University from Thailand emerged as the winner of the 2007 Citi International Case Competition. The three runners-up were HKUST, the Helsinki School of Economics (Finland) and the University of Southern California (USA).
