Dang Mai Nguyet, 59, from Vung Tau Province was selected as one of Vietnam’s first Citi Microentrepreneurship Awards winners in 2007. Mrs. Nguyet had been living below the poverty line until she took her first microloan of US$150 from the Capital Aid Fund for Employment of the Poor in 2002. She used her loan to dig fishponds, and found ways for herself, her husband and her sons to learn about fish farming techniques. The family’s income has gradually increased to over US$2,200 per year, enough to build a new house. Mrs. Nguyet now wants to expand her microenterprise with another loan to breed worms for fish feeding.
