and employee volunteerism

Brunei
Business Presence
Citi has had a presence in Brunei since 1972, providing a range of corporate banking services, as well as some consumer banking products and support for private banking clients. Citi Brunei employs 53 staff in two branches in the capital Bandar Seri Begawan and in Kuala Belait.
#
Citizenship History
Since 2005, Citi Brunei employee volunteers have participated in annual beach clean-ups in support of Project AWARE (Aquatic World Awareness, Responsibility and Education), which raises public awareness on the importance of marine and coastal conservation.
#
In 2005, Citi Brunei employees helped raise more than B$50,000 (US$30,000) for tsunami relief funds by joining a Charity Walkathon coordinated by the Banks Association of Brunei.
#
In 2006, Citi Brunei employees organised the refurbishment of classrooms at the Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Mariam, a private centre for disabled students. In addition to volunteer time, Citi Brunei contributed B$15,000 (US$9,375) towards the maintenance and management of the centre.

Preserving the Heart of Borneo

In 2007, Citi Brunei partnered with the Brunei Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources and the International School of Brunei to plant 1,000 trees in support of the Heart of Borneo Project.

#
This project was launched in 2006 as a collaborative effort by the governments of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and Malaysia to protect biodiversity in 220,000 square kilometres of equatorial rainforest in Borneo. This area is the source of 14 of Borneo's 20 major rivers and is regarded as one of the most important centres of biodiversity globally with 361 new species discovered over the last 10 years.

Two of the 120 volunteers mobilised by Citi Brunei to plant 1,000 trees in the Bukit Shahbandar Forest Recreation Park as part of the Heart of Borneo conservation project.
November, Citi mobilised 120 volunteers in the tree-planting activities.
#

The volunteers included employees, clients, family members and students from the International School of Brunei. As guest of honour, the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources planted the first tree, accompanied by the Deputy Minister and Permanent Secretary. The trees were planted in the Bukit Shahbandar Forest Recreation Park, which is visited by thousands of Bruneians and is one of nine forest recreation parks in Brunei.

#
For Citi Brunei, planting these 1,000 trees is not only a way to actively contribute to the Heart of Borneo Project, but also to demonstrate the value of public/private partnerships in tackling social and environmental issues.
